This isn't rocket science and is an issue that should never have become political. It should never have been placed in the hands of the federal government. Unfortunately, our Washington legislators failed egregiously in 1973 to take the appropriate step before the Supreme Court took upon themselves to be the gods of this nation in deciding Roe v. Wade. Our plain speaking Constitution, in Article III, Section 2,granted Congress the necessary authority to shut down the courts from becoming the deciders of life and death. Of course they abdicated their responsibility.
The child who hasn't been born yet, whose life began at conception, is a human being created in God's image. The first obligation of law is, and must always be, to protect human life. It is the duty of all governments to secure and protect all lives. Just as the crime of murder is dealt with within the domain of State laws, the protection of the life of the child must be restored to the individual states. As your Representative, my first priority will be in authoring a bill to go before Congress that will declare the Roe v. Wade decision to be an illegitimate usurpation of authority, thereby allowing all States to restore their laws to protect all life. Second, I will author a secondary bill that will establish that ALL abortion cases brought before the Supreme Court and any other federal courts are outside their appellate Jurisdiction. We still have a Constitution. I will behave like it.
While the elected US Representatives since that abominable decision have always claimed that they were Pro-Life, not one has ever even tried to author such Constitutionally valid laws. When we look at Charles Boustany's declarations of being Pro-Life, you and I should be compelled to ask him, why haven't you even tried? I think you will agree that it is simple common sense that anyone who fails to protect the lives to children will also fail to protect ours.
I have always condemned the misuse of federal laws against pro-life demonstrators, and strongly support the repeal of the FACE Acts as an unconstitutional expansion of federal power into areas reserved to the states or people by the Tenth Amendment.
I will oppose the funding and legalization of bio-research involving human embryonic or pre-embryonic cells.
Finally, I will also oppose all government "legalization" of euthanasia, infanticide and suicide.
